girlshealthGirlshealth.gov was created in 2002 by the Office on Women’s Health, a part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Girlshealth.gov is committed to empowering girls to create strong, positive relationships and happy, healthy futures by providing girls reliable, useful information on health and well-being.

This website covers hundreds of topics. Check out a few below.

Key sections of the site

  • Body: Do you have questions about your changing body? About your first period? About taking care of your skin? About having romantic feelings for someone?
  • Fitness:  Want to look and feel your best? Physical activity can help with that — and more. Being active can boost sleep, build self-esteem, and bust stress.
  • Nutrition:  Would you like to have more energy, stronger bones, healthier skin, and much more? Eating well may be easier than you think! In our nutrition information section you can learn how to eat healthy food that tastes good and doesn’t cost a fortune.
  • Illness & Disability:  If you have an illness or disability, you know that taking care of your needs can be hard sometimes. But you can learn about the skills and support you will need to live well with a disability or chronic illness. This section of girlshealth.gov offers lots of helpful tips.
  • Drugs, Alcohol & Smoking:  You and your friends can support each other in avoiding drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. This is called positive peer pressure. Be strong for one another — that’s what friends are for!
  • Your Feelings:  Do you have some super-strong feelings? Maybe you change from happy and confident one minute to sad and confused the next. You can learn how to cope with all kinds of feelings. Learn about ways to feel happy, how to boost your self-esteem and confidence, symptoms of depression, handling body image issues, and much more.
  • Relationships:  Relationships can make us feel fantastic! But a fight with a close friend can really hurt. It’s also upsetting when the people closest to you, like your family, don’t seem to get you. Girlshealth.gov has tips for building strong, happy, and healthy relationships of all kinds.
  • Bullying:  Girlshealth.gove has a lot of information on what to do if you are being bullied as well as info for girls who bully and for girls who witness bullying.
  • Safety:  Learn how to stay safe in relationships, at school, at home, on the road, and on the Internet.
  • Your Future: Whether you are interested in art, computers, medicine, or countless other possibilities, planning for your future is an ongoing process. This section provides resources to help you make plans for a terrific future.
  • Environmental health: There are many things in the environment that are good for you, such as clean water and air, vitamin D that comes from the sun, and healthy foods. But there are also some hazards in the environment that can hurt you. By learning about hazards in your environment, you can take charge of your health and help clean up the earth at the same time.
